On solution of large-scale Maxwell's equations in the time domain

Michael Zaslavsky, Schlumberger-Doll Research

(joint work with Vladimir Druskin and Leonid Knizhnerman)

In this work we developed a fast and robust algorithm for solution of the 3D time domain Maxwell equations in unbounded domains. The approach is based on the finite-volume discretization in space and rational Krylov subspace reduction of the obtained semi-discrete system. The optimal choice of subspace based on a priori known spectral information will be discussed. At the end we present some results of numerical experiments with application to geophysical oil exploration.
