As we see, the graph of f(x) "snuggles" against the vertical line x=2 as x approaches 2 from the right. The graph never crosses or touches the line as the function has no value at x=2. If a graph of a function gets closer and closer to a straight line we say that the line is its asymptote. The line x=2 is a vertical asymptote of f(x)=1/(x-2).
