The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM)

Since its founding in 1971 by a small but passionate group of women mathematicians, the Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) has grown into the leading national society for women in the mathematical sciences. The purpose of the Association for Women in Mathematics is to create a community in which women and girls can thrive in their mathematical endeavors and to promote equitable opportunity and gender-inclusivity across the mathematical sciences. URI’s chapter was founded in 2024. The current faculty advisor is Dr. Irma Stevens .

How to Join: URI’s AWM chapter is dedicated to bringing diversity and inclusion to the field of mathematics. Members should be passionate about mathematics, though no level of mathematical coursework is required to join.
