Emily Barranca Defends Her Doctoral Thesis

Graduate student Emily Barranca successfully defended her doctoral dissertation this July, entitled “Recognizing induced subgraph and tree structure from the adjacency spectrum of a graph.” Her research, advised by Dr. Michael Barrus, combines principles of linear algebra and graph theory. Emily currently has two papers in preparation for publication based on her doctoral work.

After instructing math courses at URI through all five years of her graduate education, Emily is starting a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor at St. Mary’s College of Maryland this Fall. St. Mary’s is a small, public liberal arts college where Emily is excited to continue sharing her love of mathematics with students.
